Transport

Getting to Athlone

Athlone is served by an extensive public transport network linking Dublin, Shannon and Knock airports.  

Train Journey

  • Irish Rail - There are 13 daily trains from Dublin City (Dublin Heuston) with a travel time of approximately 85 minutes. To get from Dublin Airport to Heuston Train station, there are buses every 30 mins via www.dublinexpress.ie. Once you arrive at the Athlone Train station stop, the conference venue is a 5 minute walk [ Googles Map Recommended Route ].

Bus Journey

There are multiple bus services operating from Dublin Airport, the following operators provide direct service to and from Athlone:

  • CityLink - 8 buses per day run from Dublin Airport to Athlone.
  • Aircoach - 9 buses per day run from Dublin Airport to Athlone.

Both CityLink and Aircoach service offer two stops in Athlone, please be sure to check your bus route in advance. 

  • Athlone Arcadia B&Q - 20 Minute walk [ Google Maps Recommended Route ]
  • TUS: Midlands Midwest - 30 Minute Walk - (Taxi Advised, See Below) [ Google Maps Recommended Route ]

Car Rental

Conference attendees who chose to travel via car can take advantage of the many service provides on offer at Dublin Airport - It takes approximately 90 Minutes to travel to Athlone via the M50 > M4 > M6 Road. The advised route is available here via Google Maps. Remember to be cautious as we drive on the left in Ireland! ☘

Taxi 

We do not have Uber in Ireland, however we have local Taxi apps which can be used to hail a taxi to your location. The primary app used for taxi services is known as FREE NOW, it operates in a similar way to Uber providing the driver details, car registration, and total cost in advance of your journey. In addition, users can utilize Apple Pay or Android Pay within the App. You can download FREE NOW for IOS and Android at the following links:

AIRPORT

Dublin Airport

Dublin plays host to Ireland's primary international airport, serving routes from all over the globe. The airport is well connected with Athlone, offering a number of public and private transportation options to attendees.

Multiple bus operators offer direct routes to Athlone in as little as 1 hour and 45 minutes. Athlone can also be reached via rail with regular departures from Dublin city’s Houston Station reaching Athlone in 1 hour and 30 minutes.

Cork Airport

Cork Airport is the second-largest of the three principal international airports in the Republic of Ireland, after Dublin and ahead of Shannon. It is located 6.5 km south of Cork city in an area known as Farmers Cross. In 2018,
